Google renamed (iGoogle) and improved its Personalized Home Page earlier this week, but the update couldn’t shake a bug that began shaking many users last week. Thank goodness- I was just beginning to use that, didn’t spend that much time on it, so wouldn’t have to be frustrated like a lot of users who spent serious time configuring it.

This bug caused the iGoogle (free service), which allows users turn Google.com into a customized portal, to revert to an undetermined number of pages to their default settings or to months-old versions. In easy words you can go back in time and see your search history through iGoogle, not to mention other components you can add, like- Gadgets, RSS feed, news etc.

The unresolved problem upset users who spend considerable time and effort tailoring their Google.com page with syndicated content feeds, as well as with “gadget” applications, to make it their desktop for Web content, online services and applications. No surprise!

Discussion forums erupted last Thursday morning with reports from upset users, and Google, after acknowledging the problem, didn’t declare it fixed until almost 36 hours later. The problem is now solved, according to a Google.

In officially confirming the problem resolved last week, Google declined to explain what caused it or how many people were affected, saying only that the bug had been an “isolated incident” and that it had hit “a relatively small group of users.”

Recently almost all the major Google services has been strike with bugs and availability problems such as this one with some normalcy in recent months in services like the Blogger blog hosting and publishing service and the Gmail portion of the Google Apps suite of communication and collaboration software for organizations.

If you visit the forum you will obviously notice disappointed users whose confidence in Google has been significantly shaken.
