Acrobat.com a glimpse of Adobe’s full featured online office suit?
Not so sure if Adobe will push it through full featured online office suit, but surely the launch of Acrobat.com will make a lot of people worried. Adobe released today a free Web-based beta supplement called Acrobat.com for its popular PDF application. This Acrobat.com is a suite of hosted services available as public beta for free signup, bringing Adobe style RIA based communication, productivity, and collaboration tools right within a web browser. This beta release supports basic Web conferencing (don’t forget there is desktop sharing) and limited free conversion of documents to PDF format. Acrobat.com works well with the beta version of Acrobat 9, which is schedule to ship on July, but as well have backward compatibility support. Though only Acrobat 9 users will have access to a "personal workspace in the clouds" that is available from virtually anywhere for working with others online. Acrobat.com include Adobe Buzzword, a Web-based word processor was originally developed by Virtual Ubiquity, which Adobe acquired last September. Buzzword can be used to easily co-author and share documents for comment and review, creating high-quality print results and Adobe ConnectNow, a personal Web conferencing service that includes desktop sharing, video and voice conferencing and integrated chat….
Google Earth’s 3D reality heads for the browsers
The Google Earth team has announced yesterday (May 28, 2008) that it has ported the Google Earth desktop client’s 3D mapping technology into the browser. Paul Rademacher, Technical Lead, Google Earth Browser Plug-in stated on his release blog post— Today, I’m happy to announce the release of the new Google Earth Browser Plug-in, which brings the full power of Google Earth to the web, embedable within your own web site. Driven by an extensive JavaScript API, you can control the camera; create lines, markers, and polygons; import 3D models from the web and overlay them anywhere on the planet. This new browser plug-in allows a direct access to the Google Earth program from inside a web page. The plug-in features a similar Application Programming Interface (API) to Google Maps which permits developers to easily incorporate Google Earth into their applications. How this will give the developer edge over other existing web embedable mapping technology? Through this plug-in developers are now able to embed 3D maps, which can be modified using Google’s JavaScript API to add KML data, draw 3D buildings, attach callbacks and dozens more cool stuffs. Hack you can even overlay your content over different planets, stars, and galaxies…
Are you ready for PHP6
Though a lot of we are not yet getting a hang of PHP5, news around PHP6 is on the way. Hell i recall a lot of hosting company just recently upgraded their PHP to version 5. Seems like version 5′s improved class handling just came out yesterday, time really does fly. PHP’s upcoming edition, V6, includes new kick ass features and most awaited syntax improvements that will make it easier to use from an object-oriented standpoint. Other important features, such as Unicode support in many of the core functions, mean that PHP V6 is positioned for better international support and robustness. Though judging by the snapshots of the new addition, this will be a pretty moderate upgrade. Version 6 adds built-in tools for working with XML and SOAP, support for creating custom namespaces for methods and classes. Apart from addition of new features, there will be some dumping scenario as well on version 6. Version 6 will ditch several infamous features that have caused problem in the past, like safe_mode, register_globals, and magic_quotes. I am sure I won’t miss them J So if I were you and have some coding using those ugly stuffs, I would have update my code…

IE8 not so impressive, as we thought it would be
Microsoft unveiled yesterday (March 05, 2008) its next generation of browser franchise, Internet Explorer 8, i.e. IE8 beta version at the MIX08 conference in Las Vegas. Just like many others I have been playing with it. But as Microsoft noted, IE8 beta is not for general uses at this point, strictly for beta testers and developers, freezing and crashes should be expected. I have encountered couple of freezes and crashes during my tests. So far I have seen that IE8 isn’t an upgrade that will bring bunch of shiny, earth shattering features to make you amaze, rather you can say this is a small IE7 fix. Microsoft is promising IE8 will be fully compliant with W3C standards, which they have been overlooking ever since. Even with my not so smart brain I always wonder, why world’s most popular browser is deciding to get along with standards last in a row, where it should have been super compliant all along. Among new features Automatic Crash Recovery (ACR) is one of them that Microsoft was bragging a lot, is sounds very promising. The ACR feature takes advantage of the Loosely-Coupled Internet Explorer feature to provide new crash recovery capabilities, such as tab…
MS office live workspace,goes public
Microsoft Monday launched the public beta of Office Live Workspace and added a number of features to the service that users can team with the desktop version of Office. Microsoft, back in October 2007, revealed their first step in bringing Microsoft Office online, with the free web-based Office Live Workspace. They have now announced a public beta test for the services, to anyone who wants to give it a shot as an online extension of their desktop office. Please note that Office Live Workspace is not an online version of Office but a number of services that let users share and store documents online, so it would be much appropriate to call it the online extension of your desktop office. So do not misunderstood online office products offered by Google, Zoho and others that allow users to do word processing and use spreadsheets online for free, the new Microsoft approach simply allows users who already have purchased their MS Office software to make easier use of it online. He! He! No free ride with big brother. Microsoft Office Live enables users to save more than 1,000 Microsoft Office documents to one place online. With the software, a user or collaborators…
Banning from the web, is just ridiculous
Next week United Kingdom legislators are proposing a new law under which surfers who illegally download films and music will be cut off from the Internet. This proposed Green Paper, which the Government is due to disclose, sometime next week, will require ISP’s to take action against the estimated six million users a year who access pirated material. The law is expected to propose a ‘three-strike’ system, similar to that already in place in the US and France. Users suspected of illegally downloading films or music (Shouldn’t this be All copyrighted material) will receive a warning e-mail for the first offence, a suspension for the second infringement and the termination of their Internet contract if caught a third time. So the picture we can draw from here is—“Suspected illegal music and video content sharing” will be penalized. Question is who will decide whether the suspect is in fact did commit the crime? I am sure the legislators are not suggesting handing down badges to ISP’s to become cyber police. On the other hand in order to ISPs to know that you are downloading illegal files to your computer would require them to have access to personnel information on your computer,…
Hosting choices made for you or made by you
Web hosting service isn’t something you can randomly pick, especially when your business hanging on the balance. There is free hosting as well as commercial hosting. What are some of the things you should look for when choosing a web host (I am sure dozens of factors available)? The factors for choosing a free web host and a commercial web hosting solution are slightly different although they do overlap. Choosing a host is an important decision. It’s wise to have a long relationship with whatever host you choose, in terms of money as well as hectic moving process. To make the decision you need to first decide what you need. In general most of we then visit the sites of several hosting providers (referred by a friend or colleague mostly) and evaluate what they have to offer in the light of requirements. But problem starts when your needs and satisfaction no way near to your friend/colleague’s one. In that case you have to search through the web for finding the right one for you. Or you can just simply go to web hosting choice, a great place to go to help with your decision making. These guys provide you a…
Sparkling web with SPARQL
The web standard body World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) published a new type of query standard designed to gather data from multiple sources. This new query standard SPARQL, pronounced ‘sparkle’, will allow users focus on what they want to know over distributed data sources rather than relying on data format. It’s is no brainer that, this will certainly boost the development speed of Web 2.0 applications (which is actually not so different than semantic web). So why is it so hot! Our known traditional query languages such as SQL/XQuery /DMX are engineered for accessing to a single source of data, tests shows it don’t work well when several source combined together. On the other hand SPARQL which is an RDF query language can create a single query for multiple sources and combine the results on the fly. This new standard brings about a standardized SQL-like query language for the Semantic Web. And, like most Semantic Web standards, it is heavily based on RDF (Resource Description Framework), although it also makes use of many Web services standards, such as WSDL (Web Services Description Language). As a data access language, it is suitable for both local and remote use, so imagine the…
