Speaking in Germany, the Pope Benedict XVI’s quoted a 14th Century Christian emperor who said the Prophet Muhammad had brought the world only “evil and inhuman” things. This has aroused lots of anger and frustration to the Muslim communities through out the world; though apologize later for his comment. But certainly that didn’t end the frustration. Many places protest has been shown, even after they apology of Pope.
I have serious doubt that this comment by the Catholic Pope did any good to the serious international conflicts. First of all as the religious leader of the largest religious group in the world, he should be a little more careful about his words and speech. I understand fully he was just quoting someone else dialogue, it may not be his own thought(s), but as a 21’st century citizen he should totally aware of media. As he represents Roman Catholics, whole world’s media focused on his each and every single word, whatever come out from his mouth and expression considered as action of his each and every single follower. Not every person in the world look for inner depth of a sentence’s true meaning, and why would he have to quote such a sentence which he knows subject the second largest religion in the world. This truly doesn’t make any sense. All the news groups have already removed the exact speech of Pope, to stop further irritation.
As for the Muslim world, I got to say the reaction is overwhelming. The general human do not understand the context of Pope’s speech but the leader(s) they should understand. Even if Pope express some kind of personal opinion, so what? He is pope but still a human. He isn’t above error, or personal feelings. As recent events of terrorist activities performed by radical Muslim groups may temporarily make the Muslim world little shaken. But since those group dose not mean/ represents billions of general Muslim through out the world, it doesn’t have to be an issue. No religion supports innocent human slaughtering; no religion is superior to each other. Religion is faith/beliefs of divinity, shouldn’t be used as political/personal guidebook. The Creator loves everyone, isn’t that the motto described in both “Holy Bible†and “Holy Koran“. Both of the religion says harmony, so if anyone wants to follow the religions truly than I don’t see any point on arguing with each others. Let everyone practice their own faith, which is the pillar of democracy and religion.
In past Catholics and Muslims had so many conflicts like crusades. And as history shows Catholics and Muslims, the conquest of Jerusalem was all it about. But we do not live in that century, do we? Now Jerusalem belongs to Israel (which is neither Catholic nor Muslim country). So I guess we can say crusade is over. We are living in a world with different context.
Both general Roman Catholic & Muslim’s should understand, pope is the leader of Catholics religion, not the speaker of their attitudes or action. So making it as an issue by Muslim leaders is very childish. As for Pope, quoting such a sentence in this exploding time is childish and irresponsible too.
