The software giant Microsoft Corporation which was pioneer in software industry, maker of popular windows, Microsoft is now facing threat of loosing it’s monopoly for the first time in 3 decades. In fact just few years ago it was the only company capable of making such kind of software.
But billions of gallons water had gone through Thames and Potomac River since then, now Microsoft is facing threat from every corner. New Open source software company Mozilla introduced Firefox the counterpart of Microsoft’s IE (internet Explorer). Before then Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser has been and remains the de facto standard for Internet users. Even Netscape couldn’t threat Microsoft one man show in software industry. Alternative browsers have been around for years, including Netscape, which was long ago absorbed by the Time Warner conglomerate. The popular open source browser Mozilla is based on Netscape, a program called Opera has a following, and Apple Computer has its own browser, dubbed Safari.

Compatibilities |
IE is not a cross platform browser. It’s only for Windows. |
Firefox support cross platform browsing. As a open source software it’s Free and update more often then IE. |
Firefox is lauded by fans for its download speed and a superior user interface, and users say that its pop-up blocker is one of the best out there. It offers tabbed browsing, which means that users can jump back and forth between different sites with only one window open, and live bookmarks, which show users the most recent headlines on their favorite sites and lets them go directly to those articles.
Mozilla Firefox a truly open source Browser threatening IE to extinction. Consumers are starting to use Firefox, and that has developers considering both platforms when they’re building Web sites. Internet users began switching in earnest during the summer after several security problems emerged with IE, which of course is built into Microsoft’s ubiquitous Windows operating system. Microsoft issued a patch for Windows XP, that platform’s most recent iteration, but users complain that IE hasn’t truly been updated since 2001. Anyone using Windows 98 or Windows 2000 who wants the most secure system has to upgrade to XP and download the patch, called Service Pack 2. According to Mozilla.org daily Firefox download has been exceeded 70,000+.
Not only Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word which was the only Rich Word Processor with serious user friendly interface is facing another biggest challenge when Google announced that its online word-processing software Writely is now available to all Internet users.
Now Microsoft have to come up with some serious idea to overcome these threat, otherwise Microsoft ones the Emperor of Software universe have to step down and make way for the new open source software.
