End of Windows Vista speculation is declared. Official launch date of November 30, 2006 announced for the
simultaneous launch of Office 2007 and the business version of Windows Vista(enterprise and Business). A Microsoft representative has confirmed that the planned release dates for Vista and Office are definitely November 30 after all, fulfilling Microsoft’s promise of delivering Vista in 2006. At least Microsoft will not going to miss this schedule. Microsoft said, the general consumer versions of Vista are still planned for a end of January 2007 release, with the rumored date of January 30 said to be on the edge of confirmation over the next few days.
Another surprise from Big Blue, the November 30 date will be a worldwide release, meaning countries like Japan; Australia will be able to get access to the software several hours before USA. That’s not the end; Exchange Server 2007 is also scheduled to be released on the same day, giving businesses access to Microsoft’s latest email server and email client (Outlook 2007). The US press invitation made special note of the fact that it will be the first time in 10 years that new versions of Vista, Exchange and Office will be launched together. I guess the last time was during the release of Windows 95, when Microsoft lunched office and windows together, and people were waiting with hopes.
Corporate customers (Vista Enterprise) wanting access to the software will be able to get it on November 30, as will system builders, technology journalists and other selected parties, although some technology journalists may get access to the ‘Gold RTM code’ slightly sooner for review purposes.
In the US, launch event, to be held at the Nasdaq Stock Market in midtown Manhattan and the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. No details of the location of the other region launches are yet available. Interestingly, a PC World article saying that Canadians will be having a launch event on November 23, where the software may well be launched early. Though no official statement has been made on that.
So Goodbye Vista chit-chat, now we have to start with Vista exploring.
