Virtual file space isn’t anything new, you and me all familiar with it for our everyday net life. Recently there is surge of document sharing services, which virtually concentrated to B2B (Business to business), rather than B2C (Business to consumers). But hey you always have to welcome something innovative, conventional, out of the ordinary business file sharing services like NomaDesk. A groupware such as NomaDesk which is designed for the nomadic workforce (an odd nickname, yet very appropriate), truly change the way business moves.
A professional collaboration tool that leaves out the high minded IT, expensive hardware, and training, leaving your company with an effective and affordable workspace app. Workspaces appear as Windows drives, meaning that even your most non-technically minded employee can create and manage his/her own space. I know there are many other renowned collaboration systems out there, why do you have to go with this start-up instead? Effortless manage, edit, share and synchronize which is affordable and highly scalable workspace that are always available, on-line or off –Reason enough to give NomaDesk a trial run nonetheless. Documents can be sent via any email-enabled device using the Email2Folder feature—no extra software is required.
NomaDesk is fully integrated into MS Outlook, Google and Yahoo mail so that users can more easily send File Links and invitations to workspaces. Something unique about it is “better access for mobile users”. This mobile feature has long been overlooked/ ignored by most of the top-notch collaboration software. NomaDesk is ideal for independent and mobile teams of 2 to 20 users, enabling even small and medium-sized businesses to get a professional team-document workspace solution without training, complex software, expensive servers, or specialized IT consultants. It’s currently in beta-test and is free to new users during this testing period. Supports only windows, Mac integration is due on January, 2009.
Once you downloaded and install the NomaDesk software, you will be asked if you are “new user”, “user with existing account” or “invited user”. For “new user”, it will take you to a registration form, in process by default two virtual drives got created on your system sizing 22.3GB each. One of the drives is personal and another is public. Rest of the usage is very simple-if you know how to handle your own PC—you can use NomaDesk, simple like that.
You can add even additional “Personal”, “Team”, or/and “public” fileserver with just a couple of click. The Personal Fileserver automatically synchronizes your files on up to five different PC’s. You can just consider it as an extension of your local hard drive, which can be synced with your hard drive and accessible anywhere. The Public Fileserver, people you’ve invited to join can read – but not write – content posted on your Fileserver. And, they can invite an unlimited number of other users to join your Fileserver. Only you as the owner can make changes to the files, giving you full file-publishing control, right onto everyone’s desktop. On the other hand the Team Fileserver gives you all the features of a Personal and Public Fileserver, plus full two-way collaboration. This means documents on your Fileserver can be added or edited by anyone in your network – whether inside or outside your organization (off course only the allowed ones ;)).
Finally I have to say NomaDesk is something little out of the ordinary Groupware and collaboration software that holds a great potential. There is room for improvements, innovations such as ability to categorize the files according to project or group etc. But hey it’s still at beta stage-things will improve gradually. Thumbs up for NomaDesk, looking forward to see it flourish, and make business more productive.
