Things were not going very pretty for Adobe lately, but things are about to turn around. The probable reason was the acquisition of former competitor Macromedia and the integration of their products into the Adobe family. If you use computer even a bit, it will be highly unlikely you don’t know them. Every computer users in the world use at least one of their most popular product “Acrobat PDF reader”, and most probably few others too.
Two days ago Adobe announced the availability of their most anticipated and largest collection of software in their 25-year history which is coming out in April. Trough out the world every developer one way or another waiting for this dream collection. But creative Mac user’s anticipation was much higher. Since this will be the universal version of CS3 products which will work at full speed on Intel based Macs – as well as older PowerPC models. Just ask a fellow Mac user friend-soon you will find out,the pain of using the older CS2 editions software such as Adobe Photoshop, Indesign etc. in G5 PowerPC based Macs is just undeniable.
According to Adobe official statement CS3 products are ‘revolutionary’ and are tightly integrated, offering industry-leading design and development tools for ‘virtually every creative workflow’. This is because they have lined up ‘the best’ of Adobe’s and Macromedia’s products and cover “all facets of print, web, mobile, interactive, film, and video productionâ€Â.
There are several packages to deal with different group of peoples needs. The packages are-Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium and Design Standard editions, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium and Web Standard editions, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium and the biggest suite of all, the Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection. The ‘Master Suite’ combines 12 of Adobe’s latest design and development applications in a single box, you can say a mixer of all other CS3 editions.
Well everything looks cool isn’t it? But one little problem, CS3 indeed provide the highest quality of software packs on the face of this planet and also reaching for the biggest chunk of money from your wallet. The ‘Master Suite’ will cost £2,313 (including VAT), if you upgrade from CS2 £1,444. Most cheapest editions in CS3 family cost £828, which is CS3 Web Standard edition. As you can see a lot of designers will have a serious Wallet issue, not to mention other budget cut to get these stuffs. I know a lot of designers/developers who don’t earn that kind of money in a month.
Question is will CS3 worth this heavy wallet wash?
