Update: Nokia N97 has been announced for real

There was a rumor flying around web 2.0 that Nokia will release latest N-series phone N97. Surpassingly some of them even published pictures too. A lot of articles are flying around too (this is just an example). According to this rumor this N97 will have-3-inch display, 5-megapixel camera with 20x zoom, miniSD expandability and 20GB of internal memory etc. So what is wrong with this story? A lot actually, if you just go through in some research. Nokia’s officially announced upcoming N91 will have 8GB internal memory, which would be the first symbian phone with that much storage. Since that phone is not yet out it will be very unlikely Nokia will put out another N series device with 20 GB? and 5 Megapixel camera? come on they make phone not super communicator:D
Anyway that will be why logically its not possible. More surprise for you guys, since now i found the confirmed proof that this was just a stealing content and mispresentation case. Nokia have a developer discussion board where a user name JVSmonte proposed(2006-09-30) a Nokia Model design and presented a Photoshop image of what his design would look like. That is the image circling around the net, and that is the one people turned into a possible phone release. JVSmonte’s proposal to Nokia:-

I have a suggestion for an upcoming Nseries model… Probably N97… Featuring 3″ screen, **GB, 3D stereo speakers and I don’t know what else to put there…

I truly do not understand why don’t people do some research before come into a decision, probably this is the one of the biggest Tech Hoax of this year:D.

well, many blogs said that this is justFAKE…well, i’ve proven that it was true…coz i’ve save some photos of this N97, well, their back camera are different.!
but as i read your blog….wel, im impressed.! your suggesting to make this phone??? am i right??? well, as techie, i might say that i agree with you…! PROMISE…! coz, my dream phone is touchscreen and has it keypad and made by nokia! well, i love to take photos, thanks for 5MPcamera…hope to have its autofocus, and i dont care if it’s not a Carl Zeiss..hope that it has a Wi-Fi…!
Nokia N97 has promised a lot with 20 GB memory 5-megapixel camera with 20x zoom and many more but can we run all these things on battery. Will the battery will perform all these functions
Andrena - did you not read that this is a hoax? The N97 does not exist and was a made up idea by someone on a forum!
I really don’t get why people run after something that don’t exist. Why not check Nokia’s official website for existing or upcoming models, rather than chasing a hoax.

First of all guys this phone doesn’t exist and never existed, it was just some dream model made up by someone.
You guys may have to wait for a long time for that N97 phone. Nokia don’t have any plan (yet!) for any N97. This N97 was just an extended analysis in the Nokia forum, even the images were created in Adobe Photoshop.
So far Nokia N91 has the highest memory (8 GB).It will be highly unlikely that it will jump to 20GB in any recent model.
Instead listening to rumors, keep the track of Nokia’s upcoming model through their official news feed.

Interestingly the scammers have already started to offer this phone. If anyone was interested in catching criminals (the Police perhaps?) they would just need to google N97 and catch the scamming vendors.

some peoples are out of my they are diffrentiate in rumors & originality, Kams(Kamrul) u r right. I also don’t believe in this phone, it needs one extra battery to load 20 gb space, that makes this heavier, around 2-3 of n 95 that is aroung 500 gm that is not comfortable…

all certain obvious difference from N95 is just being 20GB - and it is not even a reason to be a new challenge in Mobiles Markets.

Well well, the N97 actually has 36 internal GB + 16 micro SD slot (total of 48GB), and had 5 megapixel camera and 32 fps VGA “DVD quality” video capture.
And the phone is out early 2009. Looks like the hoax is on you dear.
Oh and did i forget to mention the 3.5” touch screen nHD resolution 320 x 640? and the FM transmitter? and the 36hrs music playback and 4.5hrs video playback, and the sliding full qwerty, and the double led flash, and the motion sensor (accelerometer)? and the… and the…
The actual specs of the N97, available in Q1 of 2009, surpasses all your expectations. What do you say now?

I still stand by the article. Reasons–
1. biggest hoax of “2006″, in case you haven’t noticed this isn’t 2006. 2 years in mobile development field is like two decades.
2. None of the specifications raise by the hoax are similar to actual N97.
3. It don’t even look close enough like the hoax pictures flooded all over the net.
