I was reading about Google’s You Tube purchase agreement gossip since last night. First it pops up in Techcruch. You tube was available to be sold since last few weeks, most likely buyer was owner of myspace.com and many others, if you would have follow this in wall street journal. But there weren’t any official purchase agreements or similar kind of talks took place. but the funny thing is that the title on the Techcruch post was Completely Unsubstantiated Google/YouTube Rumor, and it ends with Michael Arrington noting, "Based on experience with these sort of rumors, I'd put this at 40% likely to be at least partially true." Also mentioned a source who confirmed him about it.
Just after this blog post maybe hundreds of blog and news sources posted the same thing, referring unconfirmed source. Hell if anyone was monitoring the RSS feeds of major sources, the source is Techcruch rumor. A rumor turned into a gossip, and finally giving a picture that Google really bought You Tube. But none of the source have single shred of proof or official message to support this story. Yes the rumors might be true, since $1.6bn is well within Google’s capabilities. But since neither Google nor You Tube confirmed any of this nor did none of the poster posts any named source, it’s more likely to be a “Hoax”. Probably biggest joke in blogsphare.
Blogging about rumors without sustain proper evidence to support your post raise question about your credibility. Especially when you mislead your reader, buy quoting an imaginary source. Blog dose not have any written ethics, but as a blogger you should uphold unwritten ethics of being true to your reader. Blog will be no longer will be a credible source of information if bloggers started to blog on such rumors, just to gain attention and traffic. Now you justify this is friends or foe of blogging.
