Blogging is a whole new journalism/literacy evolved in our virtual life on the net. It’s getting so popular that now business organizations use it to catch up clients, an earning alternative for people, and a job so many ways.

Well since the Blogging things popup in our life so is some totally new terms & definitions. For someone new in Blogging is certainly very uneasy to cope up with these words/terms. So as the beginning of my Blogging course I will start with the terms/words that you really have to be familiar with. You will see how easy it is to become a guru in Blogging. Hell soon you can be teaching Blogging to others.

Blogs

Also known as weblog or web logs. A weblog, which is usually shortened to Blog, is a type of web content where entries are made (such as in a journal or diary), displayed in a reverse chronological order. In easy words a typical Blog combines text, images, and links to other Blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Most Blogs are primarily textual although some focus on photographs (photoblog), videos (vlog), or audio (podcasting). It can be a simple discussion like this or even a review or debate or just simple creative writing.

Blogger

Sometimes mention as weblogger, but very rare. Blogger is a person or a group who write Blog, just like you and me. A writer in Blogs is a Blogger. But there is also a site name Blogger.com which is a Blog hosting website, runs by Google.

Bloggies

An award for Bloggers.

Blog client

Or weblog client are software to manage (post, edit, moderate) Blogs from operating system with no need to launch a web browser; you can say desktop editors of Blog. A typical Blog client has an editor, a spell-checker and a few more options that simplify content creation and editing. But now days a Blog client consist much more than usual features, more interactive & resourceful.

BlogDay

On BlogDay (August 31st every year), Bloggers from all over the world post a recommendation of 5 new Blogs, preferably, Blogs different from their own culture, point of view and attitude. On this day, Blog surfers will find themselves leaping and discovering new, unknown Blogs, celebrating the discovery of new people and new Bloggers.

Blog feed

It’s very important to know this one, since its help Blogger to gain readers. The XML-based file in which the Blog hosting software places a machine-readable version of the Blog so that it may be “syndicated” for further distribution on the web. Formats such as RSS and Atom are used to structure the XML file. At this moment are many forms of Feeds available.

Blog hopping

to follow links from one Blog entry to another, with related side-trips to various articles, sites, discussion forums, and more. Much more like Blog linking at each other, or referencing, but mostly same writers Blog.

Blogosphere

It’s very interesting things to know: D. A land of Bloggers? Blogosphere means all Blogs or the Blogging community. Also known as Blogistan or, more rarely, Blogspace.

Blogroll

You may have seen this in most of the Blogging site. Blogroll is a list of Blog, that the Blogger recommend or his/her favorite, usually linked on the side of the Blog.

Blog site

The web location (URL) of a Blog, which may be either a dedicated domain, a sub-domain, or embedded within a web site.

Blogsite

There is a big difference with “Blog Site” & “Blogsite”. Sometimes confused with a simple Blog or Blog site, but a Blogsite is a web site which combines Blog feeds from a variety of sources, as well as non-Blog sources, and adds significant value over the raw Blog feeds.

Blogstorm

When a large amount of activity, information and opinion erupts around a particular subject or controversy in the Blogosphere, it is sometimes called a Blogstorm or Blog swarm. Well what’s the fun without that in Blog :P

BlogThis

Introduced by Blogger.com, BlogThis links on a Blog allow the reader to automatically generate a Blog entry based on the Blog entry he/she is reading, and post to his/her Blog.

Blooger

A Blogger who exhibits adolescent tendencies and lacks basic social graces or good manners. There is no place for ill mannered people, even in Blog :D

Flog

Phony Blog, A Blog that’s ghostwritten by someone whose author deliberately provide fake identity of the writer/source.

But sometimes a photoblog also called as Flog.

K-log

aka “knowledge log”, a type of Blog usually used by knowledge workers and posted on a company intranet for sharing company knowledge. Another form of frequently asked question :D

Moblog

Blogging through mobile phone, using SMS or MMS.

Permalink

Permanent link. The unique URL of a single post. Use this when you want to link to a post somewhere, even your own or someone else Blog.

Photoblog

A Blog mostly containing photos, posted constantly and chronologically. Sometimes call as Flog.

Ping

The alert in the Track back system that notifies the original poster of a Blog post when someone else writes an entry concerning the original post.

Plog

Political Blog - Blog containing mainly politically-oriented material. Can be international affairs, can be diplomatic topics too.

Podcasting

Posting audio and video material on a Blog and its RSS feed, for digital handy players.

RSS aggregator

Software or online service allowing a Blogger/ General readers to read an RSS feed, especially the latest posts on his/her favorite Blogs. Also called a reader, or feedreader. Feedburner- a popular organization for feed syndication.

RSS feed

The file containing a Blog’s latest posts. It is read by an RSS aggregator/reader and shows at once when a Blog has been updated. It may contain only the title of the post, the title plus the first few lines of a post, or the entire post, or just summary.

Vlog

A video Blog; a vlogger is a video blogger. Instead of Text/Picture its writer’s uses video to express their thoughts.

Autocasting

This term applies for Audio Blogging. Autocasting means automated system of podcasting that allows Bloggers and Blog readers to generate audio versions of text Blogs from RSS feeds. Means if you have a normal text Blog through Autocasting, it can present in audio form to mobile devices.

Audioblog

Name says it all. Yes Audioblog means Blog with audio (Not conventional text writing). A Blog where the posts consist mainly of voice recordings sent by mobile phone, sometimes with some short text message added for metadata purposes. (A Kind of podcasting). Now a day’s music is also included with voice.

Blogorrhea

A combination of “Blog” and “logorrhea”, meaning excessive and/or confused chattiness in a Blog. We can see it all the time in every Blog communities.

Blogsnob

A person who refuses to respond to comments on their Blog from people outside their circle of friends. You can say group focused Bloggers are this type.

Boreblogging

Writing about personal matters that are barely interesting even to the writer — preferably in a somewhat twisted fashion so as to make it fun to read in spite of the subject matter.

Comment spam

Like e-mail spam. Robot “spambots” flood a Blog with advertising in the form of bogus comments. A serious problem that requires Bloggers and Blog platforms to have tools to exclude some users or ban some addresses in comments. This is the most dangerous act polluting the Blog communities now days.

Dark Blog

A non-public Blog. It can be a private Blog or a Corporate Blog where only certain people have access. Another term may use restricted Blog.

Koufax

Yet another Blogging award. Koufax is an annual quasi-Liberal Blog award.

Momosphere

Term to cover Blogs written by mothers. He He! if you are a mother, and you write Blog, it will be Momosphere.

Shocklog

Blogs to generate shocking discussions by posting various shocking content. :P So beware what you post.

Spam Blog/Splog

A Blog which is composed of spam. A Spam Blog or “any Blog whose creator doesn’t add any written value.” It’s also popularly referred as Splog, made popular by Mark Cuban.

Slashdotted

The Slashdot effect can hit Blogs or other website, and is caused by a major website (usually Slashdot, but also Digg, Metafilter, Boing Boing technorati and others) sending huge amounts of temporary traffic that often slow down the server. Sp when you do link exchange with larger Blog community, don’t do with more than one.
