Go Back to Blogging Crash Course: Blog Anatomy (Part-I)

Different Blogs often have different components or parts, depending on what is available from the Blog hosting/software/system. But here are some of the most common parts that present in a Blog regardless of anything:

  • Blog Title - The name of the Blog. Or the community you are doing the Blog. For example if you Blog in Blogfeast.net, Blog Title is Blogfeast.
  • Subtitle - This is an elective/optional tag line about your Blog. It can be a short description of your Blog. In some places it’s just called Tag line or Tags.
  • Date & Time Stamp - The date and time you wrote the Blog entry.
  • Entry Title - The title of a particular Blog entry. The Title of your writing.
  • Body - The main content of the Blog entry. This may include text and/or photos/images or even media.
  • Blog Author - An optional field showing the name of the author of the Blog entry. This is particularly useful for multi-author Blogs (group or community Blogs like Blogfeast.net). In community Blogs its added end of the Blog automatically by default.
  • Comments - This is a link allowing readers to leave feedback or comments on particular Blog entries. That’s the interaction missing in normal websites.
  • Permalink - The permanent link is a reference link to a specific Blog entry. It can appear as a pound sign (#) in some Blogs, or just a hyperlink. It is commonly used when the author or another person tries to refer to that entry.
  • Calendar - This is an additional Blog feature, which usually shows the current month’s calendar dates. This gives easy navigation to Blog entries through date. Not necessarily it’s present in every Blog.
  • Archives - This contains links to previous Blog entries. Depending on the Blog community/host/software, a Blog author may show archived entries in different ways. Some choose to archive daily, weekly, or monthly. Some may also archive by category, per Blog entry, by recent entries, by most number of comments, and by most recently commented entries. Even in some Blog community like Blogfeast, Blog are also archived by most popular, points etc.
  • Links - This is a section showing different links to various web sites of the Blog author’s choice. It may be a ‘Blogroll’ (you can find the definition here), links to favorite web sites, and/or media lists.
  • RSS/XML Tag - If it is offered by the Blog community/host/software, this is a link that refers to the Blog’s RSS feed. It allows other people to syndicate the content of the Blog to either a feed reader/aggregator and/or to someone else’s web site.
  • Ads/advertisement – No need to explain this I guess:D.

Since Blogging is a Journal based or Chronological entries and there are no exact regulation available at present, Lots of general function can be missing in any Blog. But as a general view the above mention parts are most commonly present in a Blog.
