Since I started blogging this “Blog syndication” gave me lots of headache. For someone who isn’t familiar with the term “Blog syndication” would be definitely more pain in the butt to adopt and utilize it. But if you are aiming to be a successful professional blogger you simply can’t just pass it by, the very element that will bring up more than 50% of your readers.  In my earlier post Blog Syndication: RSS Feed, I have explained the RSS Feeds. But since the web technology is changing in lightening speed, syndication become much more than RSS. Now three major technologies are leading the way of blog syndication- Atom, RSS and XML feed.

What is Syndication/Blog Syndication?

Blog syndication is a comprehensive term used to refer to accessing and publishing blog content (text, images, media etc.) in one or all of these formats: RSS, Atom and XML Feed.

What is Atom?

Atom is an XML-based file format. Although Atom is not the same as RSS, it has similar functions. It allows list of blog or news information, known as feeds, to become available for syndication. It might provide only Headlines/ Summaries or the whole contents.

What are XML and XML Feed?

XML is a Markup language that enables individuals to design a markup language in web sites. XML is used for interchanging documents on the Internet.  Funny thing is RSS; atom all are written in XML language, just the difference is formats, qualities and accessibilities.

What is Aggregator?

Ok now that you know the terms, what the use of knowing this. Blog syndication allows your readers to get update/ new post alert without visiting your site. The syndication gives your blog ping/ knocks with a regular interval to get the freshest contents. So ultimately the entire feed directory, search engine bots are scrolling over your pages frequent basis, and make your SEO headache 50% gone.

• If you are using popular community blog sites to host your blog you need to worry even a bit about the syndication. All of those systems by default do the techno stuffs for you. But if you want most out of your feed/syndication you need to do some tweaking with that.  First of all just find out what is the feed URL of your blog.
