Google Adsense is first of its kind, the very first contextual advertising program ever to crawl over the net. But things are changing fast; already there are few notable contextual advertising programs other than Adsense. That definitely rising a question in bloggers mind which contextual advertising is appropriate and more lucrative for his/her blog, since most contextual advertising does not support other contextual advertising running in same page.

First let me clear few tings about Adsense. Adsense have 3 types of programs-

  1. Adsense for contents (Contextual advertisements based on your content)
  2. Adsense for Search (Google search engine integrated in your blogs search)
  3. Adsense for referral (As usual referral programs to refer Google’s products)

The “Adsense for Search” you can use only two in each page, as long you do not use any other such kind of search systems. My research shows that only a handful of company like yahoo Overture; Clicksor etc. have such kind of system. All of these programs pay only for clicks on sponsored links in search results. Overture and Adsense cost per click for sponsored results are head to head and higher than any other. But since Google search gives must more relevant sponsored results, using “Adsense for Search” is much wiser.

The “Adsense for Referral” is for referring the products of Google’s Adword, Adsense, Firefox with Google toolbar & Picasa. Maximum 4 referral link you can put in one page and one button per products. It’s not violation of Google’s policy if you refer any other company’s products in the same page. So you can always refer any products of services along with “Adsense for Referral”, but best practice is to refer similar type of products which related to your blog.

Adsense for Contents” is a bit complex compare to above two. You can not use same kind of contextual advertisements that is similar to “Adsense for Contents”. Google is very specific about this program policy. Quoted from Google’s program policy–

“We do not permit Google ads or search boxes accessing Google search services to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads or services. If you have elected to receive contextually-targeted Google ads, this would include all other contextually-targeted ads or links on the same page as Google ads. This would also include ads throughout the site that mimic Google ads or otherwise appear to be associated with Google on your site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads do not mimic Google ads. If you have elected to receive Google search services, this would include other search services on the same site and non-Google query-targeted ads. We do allow affiliate or limited-text links.”

So the question is how you will going to use other contextual advertisements along with Google “Adsense for Contents”? My first suggestion is if the contextual advertising’s CPC value is comparatively too low than Google don’t use. You can place three “Google Adsense for Contents” in one page, which is more than enough. Second suggestion if the contextual advertising really pays good enough, use ad- rotating programs, which will allow you to rotate Google and other advertisement in every page refresh. Where to find any such thing? Well if you are using Wordpress there are plug-in in Wordpress Codex plug-in site Business and Monetizing section. If your blog software is movable type this is for you. Other blog software user’s you can try using Affiliate network systems which I described in Blog Earning Potentials: Part One.

But before you do anything I advice you to read Google Adsense program policy, Terms and Condition. Visit Adsense Blog & Adsense Forum if you are confuse still, its better to spend time to research and be-sure than regretful later.
